Triple Header Homecoming - CW men vs JBAA, CW women vs Cowichan

Fireworks expected on the pitch Saturday at Windsor Park with CW Premiership home opener vs chief rival James Bay, women’s home debut

Oak Bay – With the 2015 Rugby World Cup bringing added buzz to rugby here at home, Windsor Park will be electric this weekend as one of British Columbia’s oldest and most storied rugby rivalries is back as James Bay travels across town to take on the Castaway Wanderers’ (CW) 1st and Premier level sides. The day will also feature the Windsor Park debut of CW’s women’s team vs. Cowichan R.F.C.

CW will be looking to bring a balanced attack from what is proving to be a solid, tight group of forwards and a quick, skilled group of backs. Meanwhile the women will be keen to learn lessons from their loss to Velox this past weekend and continue to build their identify as a fast, counter attacking group in their test vs. Cowichan.

"Overall, last Saturday’s victory at Westshore was a solid effort and we showed some promise when in possession of the ball, scoring several nice multi-phase tries,” said senior men’s head coach Ian Hyde-lay. “However, our penalty count was too high and we gave away two soft scores. We won't get away with that this weekend against a very motivated James Bay squad" he added.

CW Rugby continues to benefit from the tremendous support by our sponsors, in particular our two lead sponsors the Penny Farthing Neighborhood Pub and Carson Automotive Group. Their support has played a key role in the clubs ability strengthen our existing team programs and launch a women’s program that is off to a solid start to the season with one victory and one loss at the hands of defending B.C. Premier Champions Velox.

“I was proud of the effort by our women against a very experienced Velox side and hopefully we learned some valuable lessons and can improve our level of execution against Cowichan,” said women’s head coach Jess Dovanne. “The main thing for us right now is to keep improving and coming together as a team."
