Golden Days For Divvies?

Divvies Drive Towards Playoffs

The Divvie's train got back on the tracks at Cowichan last Saturday. The Island BCRU Division 1 matches on the weekend all featured tight losses for the home team hosts. (#2) Westshore d. (#3) Nanaimo, 41 – 35; James Bay, (6-7) d. Comox Kickers (4-9) 21 – 17; UVic #1 @ (11 – 1) d. the (1 – 12) Port Alberni Black Sheep, 34 – 31.

Then there was Cowichan.  The Piggies are having a tough season but proved to be strong opposition in this one with the visiting CW Tricolors.  With mere minutes remaining, they held a slender 22 – 19 lead and it looked to the locals that the bagel was about to be broken.  It was not to be, and CW managed to pull it out of the fire with a bonus point 29 – 22 victory, moving their record to 8 – 5.  Shout out to Jacob Isaac in the centers being awarded the M-o-M.  It is always tough at Herd Road and the effort of the green and black today served as an example of club pride and downright tenacity.

The curtain-raiser was a three-match round robin of Div 3 compilations – the joy of playing the game.  The team containing CW’s Drew Schieman, Oli Wakely, Michael Sullivan, John Fee, and Jay Welsh went undefeated.  ‘onyas!

Seen in Passing @ the Piggy Pen, an opportunity for our Director of Men’s Rugby to offer kudos to Jack Shaw on his recent 7’s hattrick against Japan, and to wish him and his mates good luck, as they are off to South America in search of promotion.

This week will provide an opportunity to show some grit, as players dig deep to perform annoyingly against Ravens on Saturday.  Go, CW.
