The former, CW Thirds was a rather "social" component of the club although the team also served the purpose for those young men transitioning from age grade to senior rugby. Players could have found themselves playing alongside an ex-International, such as Ed Knaggs (who had probably just changed into his kit after coaching Girls Age Grade), or it may have been a Premier player who was returning from a lengthy injury stint or just some old geezer like the Club Prez who just couldn't get enough! The Thirds were mustered by The Chaplain, aka Matt Gordon for social exhibitions at any time and most seasons. If you were simply in need of your rugby fix, CW Thirds was the place to be.
Readers will notice a change in tense. As of the 2017/18 season, The Mighty Thirds has changed its nomencalture to CW Islanders! The club has made a DEFINITE commitment to field THREE regular senior men's teams and the "Islanders" will be playing in regularly scheduled VIRU play. So, the pressure is on as we seek to grow our game. This is group welcomes anyone new to the game or anyone seeking competition minus some of the intensity of Prems and Reserves. It is in The Don's (Past Club Pres.) good hands to muster the throng.
