Wednesday's Ruck & Maul
CW ON THE GROW
Today we bring news to our readers about changes at the House of Windsor. In cooperation with Oak Bay Municipality a new storage shed has been completed to meet expanded equipment needs for our burgeoning programs. At the same time foundations of an expanded lighting system have taken foot. Our community has been surveyed to ensure the suitability of a trial period. The lights will enable a large ground surface to be available to meet the training needs of our many teams.
CWRFC is also looking at the potential for changes to its off-field home, Discovery Sports Club. This was mentioned last week and this week the rumors are stronger. As details become available, they will be made public.
BC CHAMPIONSHIP FINALS
This Sunday our Boys U16 and U18 teams will play against Abbotsford and UBC Old Boys clubs in Provincial Finals. Games will commence at 10:30 and 2:15 at Westhills Stadium, Langford. The same age grade teams were Runners-Up last year and it is to be hoped that with the support of a good home crowd, the boys will end up on top of the podium. Go, you good things.
NATIONAL COACHES
NSWT VII’s Coach Jack Hanratty has “signed off”. Jack leaves a program carrying #2 world rankings in both VII’s and XV’s. Hanratty’s career with National team programs has covered a decade of work. The summary of his body of work can be read HERE.
I quote; “Being head coach of Canada’s Women’s Sevens team was my dream job, and I got the buzz, putting on the logo every single day”. A man of passion, dedication, inspiration, commitment and tireless energy, one who led by example. Jack was a credit to Canadian rugby and the game. He signed off “A guy from work”. ‘onya, Jack Thanks, and the best of luck.
AND from Rugby Canada news that NSMT Coach, Kingsley Jones has resigned. Jones’ seven-year tenure suffered considerable criticism as results seldom met the hopes of a very critical and sometimes unrealistic, Canada rugby fan base. No doubt, like many of his predecessors, we will see Kingsley’s name pop up again in a coaching position.
A TIME FOR GIVING – TO RUGBY!
For those who give $20/month to our club’s 20 Club fund, an arm of the Canadian Rugby Foundation Trust, we thank you. to those who give $240 on an annual basis, this is a reminder that it is time to donate by month’s end to be eligible for CRA tax deductions. Simple enough. Go to; HERE
Our 20 Club is growing rapidly. It currently has 64 members. Some have considered CWRFC in their estate legacies as well. Our current invested amount in trust is a healthy balance. You can join by simply going to this link above or should you have questions, direct them to Chris Spicer at [email protected] or call, 250 888 8859.
Hopefully, we will also give to the many needy community causes at this time of year. Season’s greetings and go, Ceedub. The Ruggernut
