WINDING UP THE WEEK
SEVENS HEAVEN?
Canada’s Women went 2 – 1 on day #1 at Dubai, losing to nemesis, England, 17 – 12 in a hard-fought contest.
The physicality and commitment in this video makes many a mere watcher, cringe!
After defeating U.S.A., 36 – 0 on day #2, the ladies faced another nemesis in the Aussie Wallaroos. The Australians ran rampant, 29 – 7 and then went on to lose a close final, 17 – 19 to the Kiwis Black Ferns. Canada defeated France for third spot in an overtime 10 – 5 decision with England dropping to fifth. Like men’s action, the parity amongst the top sides is mere points, a mistake or bounce here and there. Congratulations to our women on a very solid result.
Things were not quite as glorious for the NSMT. After a quality opening win over Wales, 19 – 14, with Philly Mack celebrating his return with a brace, things went sour. Game #2 resulted in a 12 – 24 loss to South Africa. After closing to 12 – 12, Canada was Blitzboked by pace and guile. Game #3 saw the bubble truly burst after a positive 7 – 0 start against Portugal who is no chopped liver, the boys conceded 26 unanswered points and that seems to be how it goes sometimes in Sevens. Unfortunately, Wales had squeaked a 26 – 21 win over the same team.
Next in line is France, taking place at 9:30 p.m. PST. We wish the boys the best. It can be watched at;
