IN HONOR OF JOHNO – LET’S FILL THE BARD!
Mine host, Conor MacNeil of Victoria Pub Co., has generously turned over the Bard & Banker to CWRFC for the evening of November 20. This is a Fun(d)raiser with a difference, infusing energy into this critical annual event on the club’s calendar. Plan your night now!
This year you will not be tethered to the same spot for two hours!! Organise a group of friends for the evening and/or introduce someone to CW rugby. Be part of the CW family to contribute to this essential component of our lifeline, supporting 475 registered players (2024/25).
One of the highlights is an auction of mammoth proportions with both silent and live items. To assist with the success of this part of the evening, we are seeking items e.g. holiday spots, fishing trips, cottage stay, game tickets. Smaller scale, silent auction items are also being sourced. Please contact Chris Spicer if you would like to contribute an item.
STAY TUNED FOR TICKET SALE – food & beverages will be included.

NSWT CEMENT #2
Canada’s NSWT put in yet another quality shift against Ireland on Saturday, leading 40 – 7 before a loss of cohesion in the waning quarter allowed the hosts to close to 26 – 47. As has been the case for the past three weekends, there was much to like. As the pre-RWC preparation ends and strategies are honed, the only small glitch came with a few handling errors as creativity and adventure was on show. The many changes of direction and lines of attack, multitude variety of passes, have been visible evidence from week to week as to what the focus is to create the unexpected. The skill base is present to take the guess work out of a risk-reward approach.
Again, it was a total team effort. W-o-M was awarded to #8, Fabiola Forteza. This viewer thought Julia Schell’s performance also had her in the running. Finally, Sophie is back!! Her 17-point outing is worthy of mention. My final comment gives credit to another excellent defensive performance. A ten-minute stand at the start of the second half repelled phase after phase. The “attacking tackles” of the Canadian women create many chances. Just a thought. It would be interesting to get into Coach Rouet’s mind to know who he thinks are his strongest starting XV! A shout out of ‘thanks’ and ‘good luck’ to this squad who open their campaign against Fiji on Saturday. 23rd August, 9:30 (PST).
