CW MENS RUGBY - 2025 SEASON

COACHING ANNOUNCEMENT

Castaway Wanderers Mens program is pleased to announce the coaching structure for the upcoming 2025/26 season. The coaching staff has been added to, as a directional change will be implemented.  In previous seasons the men's program has adopted a "wholistic tutelage" - a noble approach in many ways but at the same time, arguably detrimental.  Last season the Divvies struggled, not reaching their full potential and the Premier players appeared to lose direction on occasion. (Ed.)

From Head Coach, Ken Goodland; "In direct response to player feedback and post season review, the new structure clarifies roles and responsibilities and supports each squad with dedicated staff. The entire coaching staff will continue to work collaboratively but the main change sees a fully focused Division One staff that will allow for stronger player development and improved program alignment.

Firstly, we are pleased to announce Doug Hepp stepping into the head coach position of the Division One squad. Doug’s continued commitment to his coaching development and passion for Castaway Wanderers puts him in a great position to take on this role. He will also lead the program as scrum coach, drawing on his years of experience as an immovable object.

Continuing as Program Lead and Premier head coach will be Ken Goodland. This will be Ken’s fifth year in charge and he will be ably assisted by Kiwi, Aaron Cook. Aaron will take on the role of program lead, Backs, with a focus on the Premier side.

The program would very much like to welcome two experienced CW stalwarts taking on new roles this season, Ollie Nott and Matt Sutherland. While recovering from a serious knee injury, Ollie is keen to continue supporting the program and will take on the role of Division One assistant coach, with additional support to the overall program. His professional and international experiences will be hugely important and his existing knowledge of the style of play and playing group should make this an easy transition for him.

Joining Ollie will be another experienced and influential club member, Matt Sutherland. “Sudsy's” knowledge, experience and view of the game will be a welcome addition to the staff and his  positive attitude will go a long way in supporting the youthful energy that fills the Division One squad.

In addition to these appointments there will be guest coaches throughout the year to provide support in specific areas. Look for announcements on this as we get closer to the season".

Pre season starts August 19 and the first games of the season will be September 13.
