CW Rugby Club Announces Senior Men’s Coach
Ken Goodland to Step Down at Season’s End
VICTORIA, BC — Castaway Wanderers Rugby Club President Kerri Cook today announced that Ken Goodland has decided to step down as Senior Men’s Head Coach at the conclusion of the current season, marking the end of an extraordinary chapter of leadership and service to the club. We’re pleased that Goodland will remain with the organization in a new role, with details to come.
Cook expressed deep gratitude for Goodland’s decades of contribution to CW as a player, coach, mentor, and builder of the club’s culture. “Ken has given this club so much over many years as a player, coach and leader who has shaped generations of CW athletes,” said Cook. “We are profoundly thankful for his dedication, his professionalism, and the passion he brought to the role every day. While we will miss him on the sidelines; we are fortunate that he will continue to support the program.”
Goodland’s history with CW spans more than twenty-five years, beginning his coaching journey at the club with minis, U16 and U18/19, and ultimately coming full circle as head coach of the Premier Senior Men’s program. His rugby résumé includes international caps for Canada in both fifteens and sevens, three BC Premiership titles, and four national championships with the Rock, along with international coaching and high-performance leadership experience.
“It has been an honor to serve as Senior Men’s Head Coach and to be part of such a special club,” said Goodland. “CW has been central to my life for many years, and I am grateful for all the opportunities and support I received from everyone. When I arrived in 2000 I never would have imagined it playing out like it has. I am immensely proud of what our players and coaches have accomplished together, there is a great culture and brotherhood in this program, and I look forward to continuing my support as we build it to be the best it can be.”
Cook noted that the club will undertake a comprehensive and rigorous search for the next Senior Men’s Head Coach. “This is one of the most important hires in our club’s future,” Cook said. “We will be conducting an extensive search — locally, nationally, and internationally — to ensure we identify the right leader to build on the strong foundation Ken leaves behind. Our goal is to find a coach who shares CW’s values, can develop talent across our pathways, and can lead the program to sustained championship success. Ken will support the transition to ensure continuity and stability for our players.”
Further announcements regarding coaching leadership for the upcoming season will be made in due course.

This is hardly the blog I had expected to post today! As club President, player, fellow coach, auctioneer, M.C., adviser and friend, I have worked beside Ken for all of these years. Keri has said it all. I do add, thenk you, mate, with an added thanks to Lauren for her support. In the coming weeks we will try to fill this story in with some highlights. In conclusion, I add an appropriate quote from today's T.C. It relates to the albeit, pro Vancouver Canucks. "it is to be hoped that motivation does not wane during the slog to end the season."
