100% of proceeds of the auction and dinner (including ticket sales) will go to Club-related initiatives
Why does CW host the fundraiser dinner and auction?
Without the dinner, the dues for our 500+ player members would have to increase by more than 100%, and we believe that keeping the dues low keeps the game broadly available to all. The dinner is our most important fundraising event, and it is a great social event and binds the club together: giving parents, alumni, sponsors, supporters a chance to come together to celebrate CW rugby and get to know one another better.
If you haven't been to a dinner in recent years, and especially if you have - please consider coming, with your partner, friends and making a night of it. This will be an event to remember as we celebrate and raise funds for our club. President Kerri Cook, and MC Ken Goodland look forward to welcoming you there!
RUGBY BITS & PIECES
MLR - Professional rugby in North America is slowly sliding away, this despite a crowd of some 60,000 assembled at Soldier Field, Chicago last weekend to watch the All Blacks come from behind to defeat Ireland 26 - 13. This week it has been announced that the MLR, has been reduced to six teams, with Utah ceasing operations. This makes matters even more remote for Canadian men seeking to enhance their rugby careers. Teams have reduced the number of import players as well and Canadians are considered to be imports! It will be fascinating to see if there is some resurgence with the USA hosting RWC for men in 2031 and women in 2033. Will there be a spinoff effect for the BC Premier League?
WOMEN'S NATIONAL UNIVERSITY CHAMPIONSHIPS - Last weekeend UBC upset UVic in the National Final, eking out a try from CW grad, Adia Pye in the dying stages, 15 - 13. This was considered an upset as UVic had been the victor in three previous meetings. Former National team 7's and 15's player, Charity Williams was the tournament's MVP. CW made the scoreboard for UVic, as age grade grad, Ella O'Regan, also scored a try.
BERMUDA CLASSICS - CW is also well represented in Bermuda, with former players, Kyle Bailie, Derek Daypuck on a squad that is coached by Garth Cooke, add to these names a current regular, Johnny Humphries. The men looked good in their opening match, defeating the Classic Lions, no less, but then losing to the Argentinian Legends. Next up, USA Classic Eagles.
IT'S A NO RUGBY WEEKEND UPCOMING
(Men's Divvies slated for away to Comox Kickers)
