SOME RECENT SCORES
CANADIAN U20: Let's start with the most exciting! Canada's U20's wailed on Japan with a six try performance, 39 to 15. Jake Webster from Ontario scored a hat trick, O'Leary added more points from the boot and Hammond played competently @ # 9 whilst Peter Van Buren was amongst the reserves. The Maple Leaf goes to the head of the pool with one game to go, that against Uruguay. These results are what fans have been hoping for for some time. Congratulations to Mike, the rest of his staff and management but most of all, to the players. The job is not completed and it is to be hoped this high standard can be maintained.
BCHS PLAYOFFS: It appears that the bookies were correct with their seedings when St. Georges (#1), from Vancouver shellacked the Barbs 73 - 3 earlier in the week. This score is hard to imagine for this writer but does show the "differences" at this level. St Georges has embarked on an up scale rugby emphasis in recent years and it is showing. No result on SLS v.STG final to date. The Barbs then lost to higher seeded Kelowna SS, 14 - 10. Not a stellar campaign at the end of the day......pity boys.
SMUS lost to Collingwood 24 - 27 and subsequently to Brentwood, to wind up #4. Glenlyon knocked off Smithers, 32 - 0, to avoid the spoon. In all, results for Lower Island teams not what coaches would have wanted but that's rugby, witness Super XV week in and week out!
