Premier Women Start Campaign Emphatically!
CW’s Premier women travelled to Vancouver last Saturday to play UBC “Thunder”. This is the UBC Div 1 team that played in the hybrid season and qualified for Premier play, - so not UBC's strongest team. 29 to 0 at half, 53 to 0 at full time for CW.
CW scrummaged strongly, winning three tight heads. Emily Belchos kicked a 50/22 and had a strong game kicking from hand, resulting in good field position. Supporting the forwards, the backs were well organized and Talia Hoffman at fullback made some notable try saving tackles.
All in all, a good team effort with everyone contributing defensively and creating opportunities for offense. Captain Temi Ogunjimi and Emily Samek stood out as Women of the Match. Worthy of mention is the fact that there were seven CW junior alumni played on the Premier team on Saturday – a testament to grass roots rugby and growing the game.

The Division 2 Women had a tough game at home against a strong Comox side, falling 65-5. Still, the team is focusing on the positives as the season continues. Our Division 2 program saw the most players the team has ever had for a game - 33 registered and rostered!
Half the team is new to rugby and are having fun learning from a strong mix of experienced players and are working to continue to grow their game and develop skills each week under Ed Knaggs’s coaching. Div 2 women will hit the road to United RFC in their next game, looking for a better result, while the Prem's look to continue their winning streak at home, taking on crosstown rivals Westshore, at Windsor Park this Saturday.
