Monday's Musings

INTERNATIONAL RUGBY
It was a great day on Saturday to welcome Acalanes HS/Lamorinda RFC boys U16 & U18 teams to the House of Windsor. The majority of the lads who play with their H.S. also play for Lamorinda club, a member of the NorCal R.U. Although there is this connection, the boys played in their school colors of two blues and white and it is not known to this writer who the sponsor of the trip was. Acalanes is in the Bay Area of San Francisco.
U16
CW opened the scoring early. However, the score was soon levelled, and the visitors then went ahead. The contest was hard-fought and the score ebbed to and fro in the evenly matched affair. It was the visitors who ended on top, 20 – 17.

U18
This was a very special club experience for the home “crew”, with James Bay players joining CW to bolster the roster due to some unavailability. The local side scored early and often in a one-sided victory. CW parents provided a potluck post-game nosh whilst the lads from the two countries got to know each other. Sport can be a magical salve.

Meanwhile, it was at Bayside RFC where a combined CW Colts/Rising Tide took on the hosts. Both teams scored six tries but Bayside came out on top, 43 – 32. On debut for CW were Ty Featherstone and Mateo Quinonez, and in his second game ever, Luke Stenberg notched a five-pointer. The Tricolor exclamation mark came from Fred Ragan, on invite, chalking the final seven points. Well done all.
PRIVATEERS HAMMER PRIDE
Out at Westhills the visiting east coast team embarrassed the “Young Canada”, Pacific Pride, doubling up with a 61 – 29 final score. The Pride started well but soon caved to an enthusiastic forwards’ game. The Pride program is having a far from stellar season with rumors about Rugby Canda and coaching issues raising some real doubts with fans and pundits. CW’s Premier results are not without blemish so Saturday’s contest should be a ‘doozie’!
TO ALL YOU UNDERDOGS OUT THERE!
Long odds had Scotland well out of favor with punters on the weekend, so can you believe they put the wood on England to the tune of 32 – 20 with late scoring making the English look better than their day. Once again this proves that anything can happen with a game of rugby. Hard work and belief are usually rewarded. Oh, and the tries were ‘crackers’. Cause for a wee dram. Slainte!
