Day One - Canada Women In Dubai
Canada's NSWT moved into the quarter finals after day#1 action in Dubai. The outcome is good however, the team would not have been happy as to how it occured, beeating France handsomely, thence tying Brazil and getting whitewashed against Australia.
What Head Coach John Tait said following Day One:
“We thought we started the day well against France who were very aggressive in defense, but we weathered it and turned possession into points. Brazil played exactly how we expected and challenged every breakdown and forced us into some uncharacteristic play. We needed to just get some go forward but instead put ourselves under more pressure and tried to play sideways and rely on the ref to get them onside. We finally did that in the last two minutes and scored two tries to salvage the draw.”
“Australia, frankly, just outplayed us and we looked tired. We cannot afford to make that many mental errors and missed tackles against a team with that much talent and speed.”
“Tomorrow we need to execute the basics better and more often then we did today. If we are able to put some continuous phases of our game plan together at speed then I know we will get the performance we want.”
“Spain are a really tough team, they are very experienced and gave us a tough semi-final at the World Cup. They hold onto possession and keep their shape in defense. With a couple of talented finishers we need to make sure we don't gift any soft tries to them like we did today.”
Go, girls, go.......the best of luck to you.
