CW vs Nanaimo - Senior Women's game report
CW Senior Women's Inaugural match
It was a historic weekend for the CW club as a senior women's took to the field for the first time in over 20 years. The last time CW fielded a womens team was back in 1993/1994 and the new look team would make those past players proud. To mark the occasion, the CW women in their new kit were clapped onto the field by the 1st division men and supporters.
It was a great weather with field conditions perfect for expansive running rugby and both teams did not disappoint. It was hard fought 1st half which had CW and Nanaimo exchanging tries in the opening 10 minutes wth both teams competing hard for possession. CW took a small lead into the half with expectations for a tough 2nd half. The game opened up in the second half with CW women showing some expansive running through their backline. Nanaimo was full value for continued effort and competitiveness in defence and at the breakdown throughout the 2nd half. Their continued effort brought them close to the try line in the 2nd half and were rewarded Their efforts rewarded with a try as the game came to a close.
It was a great game of rugby played in great spirit by both teams and a great start to the Island regional league.
Congratulations to the CW coaching team for their efforts in bringing this team together and many thanks to Nancy and the Nanaimo Hornets for hosting us so well. We look forward to returning the favour when Nanaimo travels to Victoria in October.
CW would also like to thank Barbara Mervin and her Aptoella team for their wonderful design and construction of the team's jerseys and shorts ! A very responsive team to get our kit ready for their first game !
Big thanks and check out their female rugby gear at their new website - www.aptoella.com
