Classic Confrontation

It's all about an old boot that belonged to this man - some might say, a "Golden Boot" for that was exactly what it was on many an occasion.  Gareth Rees, grad of SMUS, donated a "trophy" that has become emblamatic of arguably, the power of Victoria High Schools rugby, some years ago.  Some nineteen games have taken place between Oak Bay H.S. and SMUS and the record is 9 - 9 - 1, no dominance after these 19 matches!  The 2014 encounter takes place tonight at U.Vic's Centennial Stadium at 7:00 p.m.

There is a decided CW flavor on both sides of the pitch, with Clayton Daume and Ian Hyde-Lay coaching a young SMUS team and CW's James Carson, leading a group of CW juniors in a "veteran" Barbs' team. SMUS will also feature one or two CW juniors.  The Barbs are coming off a very successful South American Tour under the tutelage of Gary Johnston.  Should be a classic as these young men give it their all in these matches, the pinnacle for many of them of their High School playing days. Not to put the knocker on it but the Ruggernut goes for the Barbs by 6.5!!  If you can get set on this let me know, as I'll take some of the action!!
