Outstanding Result From Superhuman Effort!
This site will not pontificate at any length about today's two matches. The UTube highlights tell the tale. Suffice to say, the effort was unreal and in the battle for third, when Canada looked gassed in the first half and had the very worst start imaginable, giving up a tally after the k.o Stanza #2, trailing 0 - 19, something unbelievable happened. With the aide of the Eighth Man, these Warriors dug deep, pegged away at the scoreline and received just reward when Mack slotted a penalty, rarely seen in Sevens but the presence of mind to make yet, another correct decision! Canada 22 - Samoa 19, moving from 14th to 11th place in the overall standings. CW believes we can speak for all at Home with a sincere, "Thanks" and "Congratulations". Enjoy the moment for you all most certainly deserve it.
Canada next travels to Wellington, N.Z. where they have an ever so slightly more palatable Pool, finding themselves with Scotland, Argentina and U.S.A. The boys are very realistic as noted in a post game interview with Mack, that the competition is VERY tough and nothing can be taken for granted. The games were played by the core group in this tourney, with only Scholtz getting in from the bench, on this observer's viewings. I liked the leadership of Moonlight - he is one tough dude, Mack was a highlight reel unto himself, Dala played the best footie at Sevens we have seen from him and Connor Braid deserves the same comment, Harry Jones is so reliable and one courageous defender. Douglas and Trainor are the speed merchants but the play did not come their way a great deal. Perhaps, they will need to look for more work, as long as Duke, Hirayama and Hearn are out. A terrific result.
