Second Stanza Demise

UVic came up with two, rather comprehensive victories over Ceedub, this past weekend.  The Norsemen shellacked The Ones, certainly the biggest hiding in distant memory.  Hopefully, in the New Year, the hackneyed; “it can only get better”, will actually apply.

The Premiers had the score at 7 – 5 for the hosts at the interval with obvious dominance in the set scrum.  A couple of things happened in the second half that could have been catalysts for the demise.  Firstly, the garage doors were opened and the Ferraris were let loose!  Kay distributed wide instead of persisting with the inside lanes and CW was soon at sixes and sevens when Hall inserted from #15 at will, with good lines, either scoring himself or “dishing off” with little resistance. CW lost Jon Morris and tight head newcomer, Chapman to injury.  Then at the midpoint, Armstrong, who had been on target with some focused play, received a red card for a “shoulder throw” which seemed innocuous enough.  All of this carnage started when UVic snatched a ball from an attempted penalty which rebounded off an upright!  The result was a point a minute total of 41 against a lone CW try.  Final score, UVic 48 – CW 12.

The trio of Flagg, Buckley and Keogh toiled tirelessly for The Tricolor. Misery loves company.  Perhaps the sole consolation in what is proving to be a difficult campaign, another storied club, The Meralomas, is experiencing the same struggles.  To our boys, get well, do the work in the gym and those little differences that have not gone your way might just turn around.
