The Sevens Carnival is back at Roger’s Centre this weekend for its eleventh year. The NSWT are in fifth place in a series where the women’s competition takes pride of place for Canada.

There is a CW connection on the team, with Charity Williams, a seasoned vet who will be returning for an injury.  Charity has retained her speed over the years and matched with her strength; she will be relied upon to lead.  There are many changes from the last event in Perth, as many players are required for professional duty with their clubs in the UK.  There will be others with plenty of experience in fifteens and sevens who will be returning from injury, notable will be the dynamic Flo Symmonds.  The ladies play USA, Australia and Fiji on day #1, in a challenging pool.  Only two teams will move on to the championship bracket.                Best wishes to all. Go, Canada!

Captain prepares to 'lock' out Japan and Chile! The NSMT, led by CW ‘grad”, Lockie Kratz, (C.) will play Japan and Chile in a Challenge Cup competition.  The men did not perform well last time out, in Nairobi. They will be bagel-busting at the weekend and should show well in front of the home crowd.  Other CW connections on the team will be Jo-Jo ‘Mercury’ Morra and Jack Shaw.  Best of luck to all.

There will be an associated Sevens Tournament for the Vancouver International Sevens Championships for U16 and U18 boys and girls, held at UBC.  Some forty teams have entered.  BC Boys U18 ‘Gold’ contains Des Murray, Luca Robb, and Theo Schaddelee from CW.  BC ‘Blue’ lists Fergus Jessep and Gabe Regossa from the Tricolours.  Good luck to all the lads in this opportunity to “showcase”.  I note teams from Ontario, USA, Alberta and the Yukon are entered.

                                        NSWT U21
CW Age Grade players, now with UBC, Adia Pye and Jesse Knaggs are in the UK for three games against Ireland, the British Army and England, (game #1 – 15/3).  This tour is a component of the women’s pathway to senior representation.  Best of luck to the team, Adia and Jesse in particular.

Sophie is in the news again!  As she rehabs from another injury, the selection of her Female Athlete of the Year by Victoria Sports Awards, would provide some salve.  It is nice to see this amazing woman earn the honors this pundit believes are her due.  Go, Soph.

With apology to our women’s Divies for failing to note their result last Saturday.  The ladies lost 5 – 35 @ United RC in Vancouver.
