Wednesday's Ruck & Maul
NOT CW’s FIRST RODEO
Friday’s ‘Under the Lights’ will be the hattrick of such matches between UVic and CW. The first was eight years ago (2016-11-12) and The Tricolors had a 35 – 24 victory. It was two years later (2018-11-11) when CW won the second such match 12 – 7 on an ethereal night when the temperature saw the players’ steam blanket the action for the grandstand spectators. And so, they go for it a third time this Friday.
Both sides are struggling for results. For CW, with an injury issue, a positive outcome would see the boys relatively pleased with the first half of the season. For the Vikes, Coach Manning is on the hot seat with successful results not forthcoming. There are many opinions about UVic not fielding a freshman, Saxons and Jutes program. UVic also has a cadre of very qualified coaches to support the program who must also be scratching their heads.
CANADA NSMT 7’s. This program finally enjoyed the spoils of winning last weekend. The men won the RAN 7’s Tournament in Trinidad, going undefeated in five games. This was a favored and expected outcome. The opposition came from Trinidad & Tobago, Jamaica, Guyana, Bermuda and Cayman Isl. I ask the reader to cast the mind back to when Canada men defeated Japan with ease, BC defeated Argentina and UVic defeated Uruguay! Opposition here should not have provided any real threat. The program next moves to the Challenger Series where the team must win again to get into the Tier II show. CW missed Ethan Hager in two club games, but he chipped in with some tallies. CW connected, Josiah Morra, also put points on the board. He now moves on to MLR competition, so we’ll see how that goes.
