CW KIDS KICKING KLINIC

Last Sunday CW offered an “Introduction to Kicking Clinic” to local clubs Mini and Junior players. Overheard at the start of the day, “I’m a prop, why do I need to know about kicking!”

It was an incredible morning at CW rugby seeing so many kids from the Junior program participating in the CW Kicking Klub hosted by greats of the boot, Gareth Rees, Bobby Ross and Brennig Prevost. We were treated to an inspirational video from Sophie De Geode in the first part of the session and then we headed outside to work on our skills. A big thank you to our amazing instructors, Sophie DG, and volunteers who showed up to help make this morning a success. Looking forward to round 2 on Jan 7th!

Meanwhile, across the Atlantic, this girl was on fire, initiating a fantastic try for Sarries. Way to go, Soph.

Keeping it close to home. Rugby Canada reports the travails that the Men’s Sevens team must hurdle to make the Paris Olympics. This writer would call it “major” but most of the team have been winners in their rugby lives.

From Rugby Canada, “Canada’s Men’s Sevens Team will compete in the World Rugby Sevens Repechage, the last chance qualifier for the Paris 2024 Olympics, over June 21-23, 2024, in Monaco. Stade Louis II, which also hosted final qualification events ahead of the Rio 2016 and Tokyo 2020 Olympics, was announced as the host venue for the tournament today by World Rugby.

Only one men’s team will qualify for the Olympics through this event, with 12 men’s teams competing over the course of three days. Along with Canada, the men’s competition will feature Brazil, Chile, China, Great Britain, Hong Kong China, Mexico, Papua New Guinea, South Africa, Spain, Tonga, and Uganda.” “It’s great to officially be able to circle this date on the calendar,” said Sean White, Head Coach of Canada’s Men’s Sevens Team. “There’s a long road for us to get to that point of the season and the challenges that lie ahead on the SVNS Series will help us be at our best for Monaco.”

Today’s photo goes back to 2014 when two of the current team were on the CW U14 Provincial Champs team.  Can you spot them? We wish all the players a Happy Christmas, for here on in, it is all hard work!
