Triple Header for CW
Saturday's a Rugby Day for Ceedub, kicking off with the Premier Women playing an exhibition against UBC @ Windsor @ 11:00 a.m. Marlene Nedved @ #8 leads the side which features some very experienced players, a couple who have worn Canadian colors. Guarantee you will not be disappointed if you can make the balcony this early! Keep an eye out for Laura Crowe-Hutchon at hooker; Lauren Sargent, #9; Julianne Zussman #10 Brit Walters in the centers and Katie McNally at full back, just a few names amongst a strong side that will truly test the students. The bench is no chopped liver with the likes of Kennedy, Irvine and Tudor ready to hop in.
The Ones play The Saxons @ Wallace @ 11:30.....so you can't be in two places at once. The Saxons backline is an interesting combination of forwards, headed up by Kehoe @ #10. Gord failed to start aginst his old club last weekend, rumour had it there was a bounty out there! Great to see him well and chomping, Trent Tabor returns and joins another forward on the other wing, Mac Catto. Great to see Mac back in a Tricolour uni after many years - UVic, UBC, Seattle Mariners - basketball, rugby and baseball. Should Mac stay around he will be an asset in the post-Christmas, Premier campaign.
The main game takes the faithful to MacDonald where at least one point needs to be gained to ensure a turn up for the Barnard Cup. Riley Ilnicki leads a good side, whose selection indicates that there may finally be a battle for positions. Ilnicki, Thornber and Allen rep the FRF with Barkwill and Braddock off the bench and experience will be looked for in this aspect of play to counter the pick and drive style of James Bay. Looks like Kelliher has earned a start at #8, forcing Grdic to lock with Thomas. The backs look pretty consistent and it is good to see Ngongo back after injury. An interesting selection, sees Albornoz starting in the centers - could be a big win or dud, as fans have not seen this man in this role however, he has all the attributes, hands, pace and it is hoped the cohesion factor is at play. All up, it should be another dandy between these two well-respected opponents. 2:15 Kickoff.
