"Saturday is a Rugby Day"

Tomorrow our Premier women take on Westshore at their home base at Juan de Fuca field. It will be a huge challenge for the ladies, with unavailability of players. That being said, the leadership core of Emily Samek, Chanelle Challenger (what a great name for a rugby player!) and Chloe Hill-Huse will provide plenty of fireworks. CW's depth-of-program will enable some youngsters to get their baptism of fire and from what we have seen this season, they will not disappoint. So, it's go, you good things and to the Faithful - fie thee on out. Kickoff time is 12:45.
CELEBRATION OF LIFE - HUGH CREIGHTON
"When the One Great Scorer comes to mark against your name, He writes - not that you won or lost but how you played the game!" (Grantland Rice)
Note your calendars, this is slated for next Saturday 3rd, May at 1:00 p.m. at Windsor Park Pavilion. It will be an opportunity to mingle and remember this solid citizen. Well played, Hugh.
SUNDAY - MINI RUGBY WINDUP, 10:30 CHECK IT OUT
As the club grieves, we share just a snippet of thoughts on the life of this man, Brent Johnston.
"So many memories back to the UVIC days- the tour to Argentina and Uruguay and the years of his commitment to CW and the Canadian Rugby community. A great loss. Truly sad news. A Viking off to Valhalla far too soon. Condolences to his family and all who knew him. One of the best. RIP."
"So sorry to hear. It was many years playing rugby before I properly finally met Brent and when I did get to spend some time with him, everything I had ever heard about him was so true. A real gem of a guy - my condolences to his family and his legions of friends and acquaintances. We lost a good one, thanks for all you did Brent, rest in peace."
"I had the pleasure of meeting Brent when I worked with the Canadian Rugby Foundation. He was the definition of everything rugby and was always happy to help wherever and whenever he could. A true ambassador of the game in Canada. Positive thoughts to his family and friends. Cheers Brent."
"I'm struggling to focus on the many positive memories I have from decades of knowing Brent. So much of what makes CW a successful, welcoming, and resilient community is largely, and in some cases entirely, a result of Brent's efforts. On the rare occasions we disagreed, Brent was never satisfied to let things lie; he'd thoughtfully and tenaciously ensure we talked things through to reach a shared understanding. That was something I always admired about Brent and I'll miss those discussions. We've lost a genuinely good man. My deepest condolences to his family, and my sincere thanks for sharing him with us."
"I am saddened by the passing of a man that gave me great support during my time at the Pacific Pride .Playing against Castaway Wanderers was not just fifteen guys in a different coloured jersey but fifteen guys that playing for Brent Johnson ,the heart and soul of the club, was their sole aim. I am sure that anybody game enough to try and fill his boots and walk the path of passion and committment he demonstrated throughout his career at CW and his unwavering Canadianism, will find the path ahead is paved with his good grace."
"Terrible news. Brent was a great guy that had time for you regardless of your club. Thoughts to his family and to his CW family."
