Saturday is a Rugby Day

Saturday is a Rugby Day

The “second half” opens this weekend when CW Women travel to Cowichan on Saturday.  The last time these two teams met, a real contrast of styles, based on team strengths was on display.  CW used their speed advantage to record the W.  Since that match, Cowichan has chalked up a win over Capilanos, the side that defeated CW prior to Christmas.  With CW fielding a number of out of town players it will be interesting to see who is a returnee and how effective their training has been over the Christmas break.  These factors, along with the fact that CW is no longer a “surprise” and teams will have devised plans to counter the CW Speed Machine will make the outcome interesting.  Final comment; it is a game well-won to knock off any Cowichan team at Herd Road.  Go for it, Tricolor gals!

The men will play two exhibition matches against the Gabe Fulcher coached, UBCOB Ravens on Saturday.  We brought news that Fulcher was announced Head Coach of the B.C. Bears during the week and the coach held a successful roll call with interested players at UVic on Monday last.  The Ravens led by seemingly ageless forwards, Tom McKeen and Garett Garbe, add Morrison, a couple of Irish imports, Kol Hendrickson, possibly Jamie McKenzie and you have a squad of some quality.  For CW fans it will be interesting to see which faces grace the field.  With a huge call on players for Rep rugby upcoming, it will be a real challenge for the club to field teams and be competitive.  With adversity comes opportunity and it will be great to see young players backing themselves.  The Ones kick off at 12:45 and Prems at 2:30.  Both games take place at Windsor with post-game activities at The Temple.

Kris & Michael do their share.  A further note is one of thanks.  The club’s recent tree-recycling event yielded the second most profitable occasion in the eight year history of the fundraiser.  We owe much thanks to those who dropped off their trees and donated generously.  Thanks to all the volunteers who came from all walks of the club’s make-up and special thanks to Bartlett Tree Experts who donated time and machinery necessary to chip and recycle over a ton of trees.  ‘onyas, all!  Whilst on about thanks, how about the over 2400 viewers who have viewed posts on our new web site this week, the last post featuring over 1800 alone?  Given this analysis, we believe it safe to say the “cutover” to our new site has been successful.  We thank our ‘regulars’ and those who share it with friends.  There are still some glitches but we are slowly ironing them out.  Big shout out to our provider Squareflo.com
