Hassler Headlines - Again!
CW's, Kleeberger on the loose on Saturday.
The weekend that was, saw over 1000 B.C. rugby fans take in a display provided by National incumbents and “wannabees” at Klahanie Park yesterday. It was a game which had two ebbs, with “Canada” breaking out to a 26 – 7 lead early in the second stanza. The Nat’s led 19 – 7 at the half, courtesy of a brace from Hearn. B.C.’s nineteen points came consecutively, after looking a little disorganised and missing some early tackles.
The second half became intriguing as Canada’s newcomer #9, Mc Rorie, scored with an enterprising scamper to open the count. It appeared as if it was “all she wrote” however, B.C .became revitalized with an infusion of subs from the bench. Scholtz, Fuli and The Burnaby Boys all presented a case. In fact, Cejvanovic added a try and Hassler finished the scoring after a pressure penalty from Braid. Hassler’s brace earned him MoM honors. Hats off to all players for a good show. This pundit was “out of town” but great to espy the download, almost an essential for major contests.
So, we now read the selectors decisions for the upcoming tests. It looks like Canada has an abundance of talent, not experienced ever before but results need to attest to this statement. The players “tweeted” commiserations and congratulations to their peers today. This observer has an interest as to what has become of Aaron Flagg, as much needed mongrel could be used in the lock spot; the fact that Connor Trainor is absent from the 26 and also the #10 slot remains “an issue”. Braid showed some stuff but no one really stood up, saying; “pick me”. This one must remain a concern as the ten spot is so crucial in today’s rugby. So, it’s Japan next Saturday in front of a full house. The Cherry Blossoms will be coming off their last match victory over Samoa, or at least the best that was available for selection and also their win in the Asian Five nations, earning their spot in 2015’s RWC.
We include below the selected 26 for Canada. Especially, we congratulate the nine players who have recently, or in the past, worn the Tricolours – Barkwill, Buydens, Dala, Hearn, Ilnicki, Kleeberger, Phelan, Sinclair and Tiedemann……best of luck to all players.
