Doing The Lite Fandango

CW will be introduced to Rugby By Lights tomorrow evening at UVic's Centennial Stadium, kicking off at 6:15 p.m.  The coaches have managed to assemble a fairly strong combination which should give the students their sternest test so far this season.  The Tricolours will see the return of Andrew Tiedemann and Doug Woolridge.  Things seemed to have turned sour for Tieds in Japan, so it is with open arms he is welcomed back by the faithful (a regular group we hope will be boosted by many on Friday). Riley Ilnicki will captain the side and be joined in the back row by Nate Oliver and Grdic, last week's saviour. Riley Macpherson returns to #9, with van der Wal moving to the wing to be fed by centers Thornber and Morgan.  This will be foreign territory for The Burger however his recent flashes of his former wing-like pace have been visible but he will have to be really on his toes against Erlic and du Toit, keeping ball from the ever-threatening Stewart, not to mention (but I will), the threat of Hall popping up all over the place.  As hinted by an earlier preview, if CW can stick to it for a prolonged period in this match their chances of victory are good.  The contrast of style offered by the two teams will be of great interest to spectators and it will be good to see Tieds and Woolridge, both UVic grads, having fun after shaking off the tiredness from the RWC campaign.  A prediction?  Not likely from this pundit who failed with all ten spread picks from last weekend's NFL array but it will be a great night of rugby and always much fun to have parents of players of the many UVic, former CW guys and CW, former UVic guys, around to chew the fat with.  The post-game comraderie will be hosted at The Temple and we invite all present at the match to join the players in a "sociable".

p.s. Hats off to Gord Kehoe, back in line for the nod against his old club - The Piggies, amazing tenacity, Gord.
