.........And Learn, They Did!

You may have read it on this site a few days ago that much would be learned from the Women's game #1 loss to France.  Clairvoyant, it was - quickly assimilated and acted upon.  We dip our lids to the NSWT that defeated France 11 - 6 yesterday.  Under inclement skies, the ladies scored the only tally of the match on the last play when a break out fifty yard dash by Julianne Zussman sealed the deal. TREMENDOUS!

We liked the following comment related to the build up for the match; "While the win was of great importance to the women, the opportunity to represent Canada in France with Remembrance Day just a week away was something the Canadians took great pride in."

“We also reminded ourselves how lucky we are to be here in November and playing the sport we love while thinking of Canadians who sacrificed their lives fighting for our country,” said Manager, Meaghan Howat.

The above comment reminds us of another Canadian moment, when yonks ago, Captain Mark ("Gretzky") Wyatt took the boys to Vimy Ridge to remember Canadian commitment. We offer a memory from the iconic, Al Charron;.... he tears up as he describes the visit his team took to Vimy Ridge just before their quarterfinal game against New Zealand. “I had some idea about Canadian war history, but not a great deal,” he says. “To go (where the Battle of Vimy Ridge) was fought and see the monuments that France had put up for Canada was… a moving experience. I read Pierre Berton’s book Vimy right after that. I’ve always been a proud Canadian, but you read that book and you’re that much more proud to be Canadian.”
LEST WE FORGET - GO, CANADA
