Burnaby Prevail

It was with a measure of optimism that the boys assembled at Schwartz Bay, only to find The Ones leaving the ramp, three players short on the starting XV.  Unfortunately, the day on the pitch went somewhat like that!  The Ones showed great resistance and resilience to a good Burnaby outfit, currently topping the Comp.

The early stages belonged to The Tricolor, featuring a strong burst from Henderson.  Unfortunately, Burnaby pressure resulted in some incrimination and eventually a tight head scrum to The Lakers and good ball movement to the wing, evading a pinching defense, saw the first score.  It had been a commendable twenty minute spell.  CW lineout work was very disjointed, putting even more pressure on their defense. That said, there were some noteable thrusts with ball in hand. Around the 32 minute mark Burnaby won a lineout in CW’s 22m zone, recycled and scored their second tally and went to the interval at 10 – 0.

BLRFC threatened early but were rebuffed however the half was only ten minutes old when the Blues' pack forced over #3, 15 – 0.  CW again showed some grit and hats off to Armstrong, Rocher, Moser and Canet. It was not to be, the mountain was too high to climb and the defensive commitment by the hosts, solid.  With mere ticks left, the bonus try was surrendered, no fault of Noah’s (you good thing), just the host with the most!  Final score; Burnaby 22 – CW 0.

Hats off to the leadership trio of Chipsy, Hodgey (fresh from shift work) and Armstrong.  Others, who were good value were; Carnet (his best performance since his arrival), Grdic, Rocher (again), Moser, Henderson and Jack (best performance in a while).  A decimated FRF (lost Crawford early, to boot), was a causal factor, along with plenty of technical issues.  The enthusiasm until the end was most encouraging and I believe the Lakers may have taken CW a little light after their big game last week.  From all reports, if some of this effort was to rub off on the training pitch our results would be the better for it.  Next Saturday will be a “rest” for the lads, hopefully to re-group and challenge another formidable opponent in Capilano, on 22nd. March at The Park.
