Vegas Sevens-Vets Called Upon For Results
Canada's NSMT has announced selections for next weekend's Vegas Sevens. The core group, led by James Bay's, John Moonlight includes vets, CW's, Nanyak Dala, Phil Mack, Harry Jones, Conor Trainor, Justin Douglas and Moonlight. Much will be expected from this crew as Canada seeks to retain or even improve its position in the Sevens Core Group. In addition, Mike Scholtz (CW), Connor Braid, Sean Ferguson, Duncan Maguire, Sean White and Jordan Wilson-Ross round out the squad. Although there are some gaps left by the likes of Hearn, Hirayama, Duke, Kleeberger and Hammond, all striken with injuries, the squad looks formidable enough.
Canada opens against Kenya on 24th @ 4:22p.m. and takes on RSA @ 6:56 p.m., neither being the easiest of opposition. Wales will be the next opponent @ 12 noon, day#2. What a Pool! Canada will be rested, motivated and prepared, it will be a matter of whether our athletes are better, as skilled and can execute in the moment, cutting down an error rate that had become unusually high at Port Elizabeth. We wish the team and its entourage well.
Apart from U18's and assorted other Sevens competitions in Vegas, included is an opportunity for "Young Canada" - aka The Maple Leafs, to get into the fray. Captain Canada, Morgan Williams, will lead a group of young men, giving them an opportunity to be with the senior cadre and experience the hectic requirements of a Sevens Tourney. More news will follow about this group as it is a talented collection of up and comers. We wish this group , the best of luck as well.
