CW Vs WESTSHORE THIS SATURDAY

The women’s teams will face off at Windsor Park at 12:45 this Saturday. Westshore, annually arise from the ashes of pre-Christmas sparse going, every February.  This year is no exception, noting their 73 – 12 win over Seattle at home last weekend. The Valkyries seem to be bolstered from a variety of sources.  The matches between these two clubs always produce intense competition.  CW has shown considerable improvement as the season has unfolded and currently sports some players of note.

Captain Ogunjimi has become a try scoring machine, leading by example, and finding ways to make team mates better.  Kelsey McKinnon from the FRF has been noticeable and Chloe Hill-Huse, has made her presence felt. In the backs, the #9 – 10 combination of Pedrick and Belchos has produced some critical attacks for Samek to feed off. No matter how the game unfolds, you can bet this group will not let up. Meanwhile the Divvies will be in Vancouver, playing United RFC.  This will be a first ever road trip for many of the young players. Have fun and give it your best, ladies.

MEN’S RUBBER MATCH – SEEKING THE SHIELD

The two men’s games at Juan de Fuca promise to provide much of the same fireworks.  CW Divvies are still winless but have been on the cusp recently, except for an ugly ‘forty’ at MacDonald. This contest will be intriguing.

The Premier contest will be the decider, following a September win to Westshore, 28 – 17 and the loss of the Gerwing Shield.  CW bounced back in October, again at Windsor, 57 – 12. Thus, the decider on Saturday. Westshore’s efforts against League leader, Ravens, last weekend were lauded by some pundits, even being deemed as a “handful” for any opposition.  Big Kenyan lock, Ndirangu evidently was outstanding, as we saw in game #1. #10 Gibson, was also noticeable with his distribution and running skills.

We have word from the CW camp that Covid is in the midst – disconcerting, as this is a critical match and will require all hands on deck. However, with adversity, comes opportunity and this writer has liked what he has seen in the past two matches.  Rugby-starved supporters should make the effort to get to Juan de Fuca for a delectable pre-prandial to our Annual Fun(d)raiser Dinner.
