Meeting of the C's

Meeting of the C's

Castaway Wanderers, Capilanos, Comox

Tomorrow, CW Women Div.2 will travel to Comox where the opposition is always a handful.  The women will be led by Ella Gallant, Avalon Crawford and Lauren Nott.  Safe travels and play well.

At home, both men’s teams are in action.  Div.2 take on a strong Hornets team.  The home team will be skippered by ‘evergreen’ Kyle Horton, supported by Jace Peters, Logan Dring and Jon Kirk in the pack.  Alex McCallum will be a welcome returnee from a stint at UVic.  Enterprising #9, Keegan Hall will launch the backs, a crew of ‘newbies’ to this scribe.

The Hornets will feature the Montgomery Duo after their spell in the capital with CW. A couple of other names we know, #10 Hywel Evans and Pat Milford (VIRU Tide) will provide a stern test.  We encourage the Faithful to get out early to support the Divvies.  Burgers and Bevvies will be provided by our senior women with profits going to their World Cup Tour Fund.  Go, you beauties!  (k.o. 1:00 p.m.)

The main game should be another ‘cracker’.  Caps dropped a close one to UBC last week and the word is they are working on a formidable ‘re-build’.  Their last visit to the House, saw a last minute, 29-26 win for them.  In my books, Caps are always formidable.  We note that Bossi and McKinnon are absent from the lineup this week.  Reid Davis on the flank is a damaging player.  Apart from Nick Pierce at lock and #9, Sam Reimer and speedy winger Cam Waddell, there seems to be several new Capilano names.  Their captain is #10 Mike Maloney who will provide a game within a game when he faces his counterpart, Bowd.  The winner will be the player who best moves his team, making those around him to be at their best.

For the Tricolors, last week’s starting pack has been altered in the lock position with Dring and Ogunlabe getting the nod.  Dafydd Thomas and Damien Gretier, off the pines will also provide punch in this position. Wallace earns his start at #2 after a lively outing off the bench last week.  This scribe deems the addition to a starting slot of Ethan Hager, to be an exciting selection.  The bench looks useful with names mentioned joined by Mike Fuailefau. (Kickoff, 2:45)

In all, it should be a tight game, and the potential outcome will set one of the clubs on a good springboard for the season.
