Gillie - Captain Canada
We had hoped to bring you the selected squad Vs Uruguay today but not to be, at time of posting. CW congratulates Kyle Gilmour on his captaincy selection for the ARCs. Gillie was an integral part of CW's last successful run for the roses in 2011. He is a player in the mould of Michael Hooper and he has led The Prairie Fire this past summer in their very successful CRC campaign. We expect him to be very prominent in the matches. Good luck, Kyle.
Speaking of ARCs......Argentina's Jaguars must be considered favorites with an almost fully "professional" squad and winners of the previous two tourneys. The Jags have five "senior team" Pumas, three of whom played in the momentous Argentinian victory over the Wallabies last weekend. The U.S. are definitely treating this event seriously also, being rumoured to fly back three players from the Gold Coast Sevens to play in the last two games. The U.S. have about one third of their group - players et al, involved in the B.C. Premier League. Seattle RFC is playing in the league this year on an exhibition basis and it's almost "odds on" that they will be promoted permanently next season. There is much that could be said regarding this matter, better left for now!
So, Canada's Crew will have their work cut out. Fortunately, their opener will be probably the "softest" they will play over the two weeks but no opposition in this game and this day and age can be deemed "soft". Uruguay will have a number of more experienced players missing, due to an engagement with Russia for a last minute "repecharge" for RWC. B.C. Bears win over Uruguay earlier in the spring, was the one glimmer of hope in a gloomy season. So, taking a score line through that result...well, you get the picture. Let's give the boys our support with our presence...go, Canada, go!
The Jaguars visited Windsor for a shakedown run the other day and had some fun with Shane Muldrew's U14's. This is the third year in a row that CW has had a special connection with the Arggies and we welcome them back.
