Four on the Road

Our Islanders travel to Comox in their continued quest for a win on the road.

Prems and Divvies take their act to Seattle where a win for the Reserves will put them in the playoff picture.  The Divvies will be led again by Matt McLean and the rest of the pack is strong with Freund, Williams, Elliott, Fowler, Newhook, Kelly and Makaroff, the culprits.  The 9/10 combo of Goldstein and Boyd-Porter is gold and those outside should be able to capitalise.  Go, you good things!

The Prems face a team fighting for its very playoff life and so, will represent formidable opposition.  The pack will start the same group as last week, with Sutherland coming in for Hohert on the side.  Good to see Yak passed mid-week fitness – a player who is playing in the shadow of his career but producing some of his finest work.  There are a couple of changes on the wing with speedsters Johnston and youngster, Morra returning from Sevens duties.  These lads should couple with Tate to continue to perform as a dangerous, back three.  Newman is in for Pullin and will join the captain as the center pairing.  The bench has depth and akin to the Divvies game, could be the deciding factor.  It will be interesting to see of the defensive pattern improves and can keep a high-flying group of scorers out of the in-zone.  Expect a close game but despite travel, I must toss my hat with the Tricolours in this one.

From Minis to Majors.  We recognise three of our Minis “grads” today – Nicholas Carson, Sammy Kahn and Brandon Schellenberger who will be joined by age grade grad, Harrison Hooke, in Ireland when the National U19 team plays  Ireland Clubs & Schools this Saturday, (sounds like a national team).  It has been a long pathway for these boys whom have shown a tremendous liking and aptitude for the game since day one.  One has a sense that their representative careers might be just beginning.  We wish them well, playing in a country where rugby is currently cock-o-the-hoop with their Nats winning the Six Nations.  It will be tough sledding but much to be learned.  Represent the club well, boys and spread the word of CW rugby.  Best of luck to the whole squad.

CW AGM.  The best attended AGM in recent history was held at The Temple last night with women, men and supporters present.  The Annual reports were given and most notably, a new constitution was unanimously accepted.  This sees the club just being the second club in the BCRU to comply with recent government Societies Act requirements.  A shout out to Board members, Tony Watson and Dianne Turner for their work on this document. ‘onya, Ceedub.  Election of officers sees Matt Gordon carrying on with the Presidency for a second term, by acclamation, buying jars for all present!  ‘onya, Chaplain.  Newcomer, Jon Donald takes on the role of Secretary and the Board is bolstered by the addition of players, Lauren Sargent, Lizzie Adams and Brian Kim.  Nice to see some young people stepping up to take an active off-field role with their club.  And so, the CW culture will continue.  Let us take this opportunity to add that the club is ALWAYS looking for volunteers in many and varied areas.  It takes many to ensure the continued successes on and off the field.
