Spencer Robinson

There has been a rumor going around of late that Roger Robinson has been spotted at Monday night touch looking to be in the best shape of his career. It has also been noted that he appears more articulate, more hygienic and with a much greater work ethic. Alas, this is not the case, Roger is the same as he ever was and the person everyone is talking about is in fact Roger’s brother, Spencer Robinson. Spencer has been hired on to coach the 2005-2006 edition of the Castaway Wanderers and this has given all supporters something to look forward to with the up and coming season.

As a player, Spence was said to be quick rather then fast and he possessed one of the the meanest straight arms in rugby. He came to Victoria to play at UVIC and was a part of one of the highest scoring teams in VIRU history. He later played at CW before moving to Vancouver. This try scoring machine soon caught the attention of selectors and he was chosen to represent Canada at the Hong Kong Sevens. He was even featured in a Hong Kong Sevens promotional piece being used like a door mat by Scottish great Gavin Hastings. In a last ditch effort to make the Canadian men's side he sunk to levels few would even consider, he married into the Rees clan.

Spencer never did get his cap but he did get a wonderful wife in Jane and two splendid children. Spencer would not comment on his father and brothers-in-law however.

After playing Spenny took up coaching and has done well at every level. He has coached the Canadian men at Sevens and the Canadian women's team at the Provincial and National levels. It was his experience with the Women's side that the executive felt would be a tremendous benefit when it came to dealing with the likes of Kenny and Tye. This season should be very exciting with Spencer behind the reins and a tremendous load of talent on the field. I think Spencer describes the mood the best when he says “I am very excited to return this team to the lofty heights it had reached under the leadership of Ian Jones, and with the talent we have this year and my coaching, the sky's the limit.”
