Graeme
made his international sevens debut at the
IRB Emirates Airline London
Sevens where he marked his first cap with a
try in Scotland’s tournament opener against
Russia. He went on to play in the final tournament
of the season in Paris, earning his second
cap. His inclusion in Rob Moffat’s squad
came shortly after Graeme helped Melrose lift
the coveted 2005 Kings of the Sevens title,
making a name for himself on the Borders’ circuit
with his formidable presence in both attack
and defense. The Kings of the Sevens title
was clinched with victory over Watsonians in
the final of the Jed-Forest Sports at the beginning
of May, adding to Melrose’s previous
title honour in 2002 in which Dodds also played
a part. He has been a regular fixture in the
Melrose XV for the past two seasons having
played with the club since his days of mini
rugby at the Greenyards. He has represented
The Borders at U16, U18, U19, and U20 levels,
captaining the last mentioned for two seasons
between 2002 and 2003.
Next
season he heads for Canada where he will
play for the Castaway
Wanderers in Victoria, BC leaving behind
his current job on the family farm outside
Melrose.
Graeme’s dad Harry was a prop with Kelso,
older brother Alan plays for Hamilton while
studying in Glasgow and younger brother Douglas
is a member of the Melrose Colts squad. He
is a former pupil of Earlston High School.
