As part of the evolution of female development at CW, it was recognized that many girls drop out of the game between U10-U12. In recognition of this dropoff of girls, the female coaching team has created a bridge between the U10-U12 age grade and our established U14 team.
This has resulted in a number of benefits for the younger girls and is now keeping them playing. As has been seen in soccer and other sports where gender separation normally occurs between U10-U12, it is resulting in a better training and competitive environment for the girls. Some of the benefits include:
- Abililty to play and train in all-girls format.
- Coach and train this cohort across a broader continuum allowing coaches to better manage groups by skill, size and development levels.
- Introduce girls to the higher levels (U14) in a more controlled manner.
This program is coached and managed by our "Rugby Dads of Daughters" (Ed Knaggs, and Aaron Cook) who have been coaching their girls since minis and have spearheaded the development this age grade for girls. With many girls coming up from our lower age grades, this will ensure a proper progression of our young female players into the older age grades.
We are pleased to announce that Erin Vipond will be joining the U10 Team and our longtime men's and mini coach, Chris May, will be leadng the U12 development.
