Calendar Set for a Busy Rugby Year in Canada
Richmond Hill, ON June 7th - 14th the Churchill Cup will offer Ontario fans a smorgasbord of options with six teams playing matches in Ottawa, Kingston and Toronto, before everyone flies to Toronto's doppelganger city, Chicago for the finals on June 21st at Toyota Field. The North America Four enters its third year of operation, with the Hawks, Falcons, Canada East and Canada West fighting it out for regional continental supremacy with games coming to Ontario for the first time as East plays West on May 17th. Action shifts to Vancouver, BC in July for games against the US squads on the 15th and 19th. The road show then moves to Denver for a pair of double-header dates on July 29th and August 2nd (finals day). The National Senior Women will have a tour to the UK in November, and based on the 4-0 season they had in 2007, more good things are to come as coach Quentin Fyffe gets this team ramped up into year two of the World Cup 2010 cycle. Canada's Sevens team continues to amaze and impress at venues around the world and for the fourth straight year with a stop in California, Canadian fans have a great opportunity to take in the pageantry and explosive action an IRB weekend tournament has to offer. With cheap flights from US jump off points such as Buffalo and Seattle, a weekend in February in San Diego is the perfect prescription to chase away the winter blahs. Throw in some golf and a side trip to Tijuana and you can already imagine that souvenir sombrero trying to fit into the overhead bin. Canada's U20 team plays its first game ever, taking on the USA on February 17th in Homestead, Florida (just south of Miami). This is in preparation for the first U20 World Championships that see Canada taking on Australia, Fiji and England in Wales from June 2- 22, 2008. August in Montreal is the schedule for the fifth annual Rugby Canada National Festival, bringing provincial age grade teams into a rugby rich environment for one week in beautiful Montreal. Plan to travel and support your favourite young rugby player in your life, and also take in the sites and sounds of La Belle Province. All in all, despite it being the year after a Rugby World Cup, there will be plenty of rugby to keep fans hopping in 2008. National Senior Men's Team
