News and Update from the President

CW Faithful,

As most will have heard by now both our Premier team and 1st Division teams have qualified for the playoffs.  The premiers qualified in the number 4 position solidifying a home game against UVIC.  This week is a bye week so please mark your calendars for April 19th at Windsor park.  The boys will be expecting a large crowd and having been playing the quality rugby to deserve it of late.

The 1st division team has qualified in the 2nd place position earned a first round bye for their trouble.  They will play at home on April 26th.  This team is quietly proving themselves the real deal with many young players gaining valuable experience.

Congratulations must be sent to Coaches Lee Lindwall and Noa Molia.  Bring it home for us !!

This weekend sees the club hosting the annual awards dinner, giving the boys a chance to let loose and to show of their classier side.  I fully expect to see more than one player sporting suit, tie and running shoes (Sipili Molia I am looking in your direction).

Speaking of ties if any of the players and/or supporters would like to purchase a club tie please contact me and I can arrange to get you one.   Price is $30 for a custom made CW club tie made from 100% silk.  (217-9883)

For those interested this Saturday Shawnigan Lake School is playing host to Canada U-20 trail match against the Senior Carded players.  Kick off is at 5 pm.  Rumor has it that newly appointed Canadian Senior Men’s Coach Kieran Crowley will be on hand to take in the match.   CW should be well represented on the day and once the lineups are posted we will send an update of who to look for on the day.

On the junior and mini front, seasons are winding down.  The minis have had a wildly successful year which finished this past Sunday and a full report can be found on cwrugby.com.  Thank you to all who have done so much to make this a success.

This coming Sunday sees both our U 14 and U 16 teams in semi-final match ups against Velox.  Start times at 10:30 and 12:45 at respectively.  Both games at UVIC.  There is some very good rugby being played at this age and for anyone doubting the strength of the club right now I urge you to come out on Sunday and watch the future of CW.  You will be impressed.
