A Look At Rugby Canada's Bid for IRB Sevens

Victoria Host ARC's - #3

R.C. Golf Fundraiser - A HUGE Success.  On Thursday afternoon, over 100 golfers hit the links at Olympic View Golf Course for the annual Rugby Canada Players Championship Golf Tournament.

The event is held to raise funds for the National Player’s Support Program through the Canadian Rugby Centre of Excellence located in Langford. A gorgeous sunny afternoon, the course was a beautiful backdrop for a wonderful day of socializing and supporting a great cause, which would eventually raise nearly $47,000.

The day was made possible by our many gracious sponsors, who generously sponsored all 18 holes as well as “Hole in One” opportunities and exciting auction items.

As the 27 foursomes made their way back to the clubhouse, they were welcomed into the banquet hall for delicious meals as well as live and silent auctions. The silent auction got underway as dinner was being served and prizes were awarded to the best golfers.

Shortly after the dinner plates had been cleared, Rugby Canada’s GM of Rugby Operations and Performance, Mike Chu held a Q & A with Kelly Russell, Karen Paquin, Elissa Alarie, Jon Phelan and Jake Ilnicki to provide an insight to their daily training routines. Russell, Paquin and Alarie, who will be looking forward to the Women’s Rugby World Cup in France next month, delighted the crowd with stories from their recent New Zealand tour and provided an inside scoop into what it takes to play for Rugby Canada.

Nearly $47,000 was raised for Rugby Canada programs, thanks in large part to some very generous donations and equally generous bids from rugby supporters. Three trips for two to Langara Fishing Adventures were purchased, as well as two Ultimate Fan Experiences, one to this year’s Americas Rugby Championships in Langford and another to the 2015 Las Vegas Sevens.
