Vale - Victor Naysmith

Thank you to all of those who helped organize and for those who attended last Friday night's celebration of Victor Naysmith's life. In particular, Ken Goodland for organizing the venue, Brent Johnston, for spreading the word and Rush Dalziel who cooked for the large crowd assembled.

We would like to recognize the attendance of Victor's long time partner, Shelley Bailey, Gary, his brother and team mate and most importantly, Cheryl and Ray, Victor's mother and step father, as they shared in the joys of Victor's life.  Alun Rees did a fine job, giving a wonderful oration of Victor's life and times with Castaways rugby.  So many funny memories!  Alun pointed out that a highlight of Victor's unique character and abilities was the fact that he never carried a grudge for anything or anyone.  For those fortunate enough to visit Victor in Hospice near the end, we always found him in fine form.  He preferred to remember good times and tell jokes - fond memories.  It was his courage that set him apart.

More than a few pints were tipped to honor our missing friend.  It was great to see so many old team mates and friends. More than one of the assembled, mentioned that such gatherings should occur more often.  So, let's use the club when you want to have a pint with your mates, let's come to Windsor and back to The Temple on weekends.  This day was a classy way to send off a classy man. See you at The Temple (our spiritual home) and The Park, go CW!

Chris Snape.
