The Ones Play Spoiler

There was no sympathy offered by The Ones to UVic last Saturday, injury plight or not! Perhaps the final result did give a measure of revenge from a severe beating by the Norse back in November. The early stages ebbed and flowed but at the 25 minute mark, Henderson ran a tight line and fed Rocher for first blood, Jack converted, 7 – 0. Ten minutes later, Aden Jack alertly took a quick tap, three pairs of hands later, with Chippsy “sea-gulling” out wide, it was a try for the Skipper and Jack converted from the sideline, 14 – 0. Thus endeth the first stanza.

The second half was only five minutes old when Henderson crossed, 19 – 0. UVic responded when wing, Oliver Smith, showed a clean pair of heels after an intercept...…credit to this boy as he had been looking for work, Tate converted, 19 – 7. At the quarter mark, it was Rocher again, escaping from UVic pressure, Sipli worked the blind side from a ruck forty meters from the UVic line and Grdic, who had been very noticeable, rampaged some 25 meters for the try, 24 – 9. The other half of the Aussie duo, loosie, Nathan Oliver made a good break, quick ball to Jack, Chips and a bunch of other receivers before ending up with Henderson again, for his brace, 29 – 7. Then it was Rocher who broke, chipped and chased and Grdic slipped inside for a cute “scissors” and his brace, converted, 36 – 7. Henderson put the exclamation mark on this one after yet another break from Oliver and Jordan’s hat trick, converted 43 – 7. At the end of another attack, CW coughed up the ball, it was grubbered by CW grad, Rhys Prevost for a fifty meter dribbled try, final score, CW 43 – Uvic 12.

Plenty to crow about and a just result for a group that has been maligned and beaten up on a number of occasions this season. This writer liked Middleton, Hammonds, Grdic,  Lamb, Oliver and Panga in the forwards. Conway, a youngster at #9, Rocher, Henderson and Jack were the pick of the backs. It can be seen with these comments that it was a team effort. It’s another game at Home next Saturday to a team that CW had to forfeit points to in the first half of the season, so perhaps, yet again, something to prove. Go, Ones, go!
