Midweek Musings

Burkie Joins Board R.C.

Rugby Canada is all A-Twitter with the announcement yesterday of B.B.'s addition to the Board. Brian  Burke was "appointed"  (Vs. volunteered/elected/nominated).  The patter is that Burke will bring a positive profile, although the opinions are polarised in the extreme, as he is a character that one seems to either like or  dislike.  It is to be hoped that the former will prevail, rather than any adverse opinions concerning a negative profile from Burke's record with a variety of NHL situations.  At CW we hope that more eyes on rugby will be the outcome and that will be a good thing.  Rugby Canada could give Burke the portfolio of Registration as his first mandate and give him a free hand to lay the wood on IVR Net's act for the benefit of clubs across the country!  This is a sore point from a parochial pov!  We wish Brian Burke and the Board - all the best, as a result of this appointment.

Saturday's Selections - Hamilton & Cudmore .... on the pines.

Rugby Canada has called in Abbotsford's BIG UNIT, Aaron Flagg for the final leg of the RWC Qualifier Vs. U.S.A.  Ryan Hamilton and Jamie Cudmore, both noticeable second half ommissions from last Saturday's Test match are injury "unavailabilities" for this weekend.  The first couple of scrummages in the second half looked devoid of synchronicity and there is obviously much work to be done to get the pack into tune against U.S. behemoths on Saturday.  More news about selections will be forthcoming.

Speaking of Saturday...in the West, we are happy for BMO and To. (aka 'The Center of The Universe'), getting the BIG matches......CW will be hosting another Supporter's Viewing of this critical match.  Kenny will have The Temple open @ 12:00 noon.

Finally, in lieu of our "shot" re Registration above (after awaiting for a full year and having recent assurances of things "being in place" by 1st August), we do hope to have "on-line" electronic registration available by this weekend.  Keep in tune!!
