Canada in Cup Quarters

Indeed, blessings from the Easter fairy and a resounding 26 – 10 victory over Kenya, led by Hearn, Douglas and Trainor, edged the boys into Cup play on a points differential. It will be tough sledding as the team has lost Hammond and the opposition is New Zealand however valuable points have been earned. In the early games Canada lost to South Africa, 7 – 29 and were nipped by the “Isles-Test” show when the U.S. won 22 – 14.

What an oleo Tokyo is proving to be! Hosts, Japan, after a convincing 26 – 12 win over Samoa and a tie with Argentina, find themselves in Cup play as well. It is always fun to analyze results to prove just how unpredictable sevens can be, e.g. Portugal defeated Australia, 21 – 17; N.Z. hammer Portugal, 26 – 7; Australia d. N.Z.!! Kenya defeated U.S. 27 – 5; U.S. d Canada 22 – 14; Canada defeated Kenya. Things are getting testy at the top, with the Aussies losing to Portugal and Scotland and playing for pride in the Bowl and opening the door for England to overtake top four. On form, final four for this one should see, South Africa, Fiji, N.Z. & England but nothing’s a “given”. Well done, Canada. You continue to amaze.
